Lindsey Johnson has an extensive background in government relations, public affairs and economic development.

In addition to being an associate and senior vice president with TheWadeGroup, Inc., Johnson serves as an independent consultant and as a board member for a number of businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Johnson founded and served as co-chief executive officer of Women Incorporated (WI), a national organization designed to assist women entrepreneurs, from 1995 to 2001. WI’s mission is to improve the business climate for female entrepreneurs through advocacy, education, access to credit and aggregating the market power of the large number of women entrepreneurs.

Prior to starting WI, Johnson served as the national director of the Office of Women’s Business Ownership at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). In this capacity, she was responsible for coordinating all federal activities on behalf of women entrepreneurs, serving as their advocate and spokesperson, and managing grants dedicated to creating technical assistance centers focused on expanding women-owned businesses. She was a frequent keynote speaker and has been recognized for her accomplishments on the national level by the SBA, the Business Women’s Network, the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Women’s Business Development Center of Chicago.

Prior to her work with the SBA, Johnson worked as the director of legislative affairs for the Washington-based law firm of Verner, Lipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand. She specialized in employee benefits, international trade, federal contracting and transportation issues. Johnson also worked in congressional affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as well as in the public affairs office at the U.S. Department of State.

Johnson worked for eight years in local, state and national political campaigns. She served as a campaign manager for several congressional campaigns, national director of the Coalition for Women with the 1988 Bush for President Campaign, and worked on state and local races in Illinois, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., and Vermont.

Johnson co-authored A Woman’s Place Is Everywhere with Jackie Joyner-Kersee, a book on female role models that was published in 1994.

She received her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and an A.B. in international relations from the University of Chicago.
